KAMRAN is a 10 story infill residential building located in Kamran dead end, Agha Bozorgi Street.
The codes and regulations regarding this type of buildings tend to organize space in an identical way even in different circumstances, generally producing a homogeneous urban residential fabric. Additionally, the high value of land and building costs imposes additional constraints on the design process.
In this project, similar to other infill projects of ARAD, codes and regulations - commonly perceived as factors that tend to suppress architecture - are transformed into simple rules of a game which stack boxes on top of each other following a certain pattern and build a complex composition of interwoven cubic elements.
Large double height terraces are obtained from this composition. These semi-open spaces not counted as the authorized building area, and therefore are a supplementary sellable area which is economically and spatially highly valuable to the client and users. These terraces are positioned differently for each residential unit, making each one of them different from the other in their plan, but at the same time these spaces are provided to each residential unit with an equal area and spatial quality.
